Optical Zoom: This number tells you how much larger the camera can make its subject appear simply through a slide of the lens. In other words, a camera with 3X Optical Zoom can make a subject appear 3 times larger in the frame. Optical zoom is generally preferred to digital zoom, since it can magnify an image without losing picture quality.

Memory Type: Although some cameras do have some memory built in, most users benefit from using higher capacity flash memory cards to store more pictures and/or longer videos. Generally speaking, Digital SLRs and the more advanced standard cameras use CompactFlash and Microdrive cards, while the rest use either a form of Memory Stick (Sony), xD-Picture Card (Olympus & Fuji), or Secure Digital Card (most other brands). Many cameras using xD cards also use SmartMedia, as many SD compatible cameras can also use MultiMedia Cards (MMC).

LCD Screen Size: Digital Cameras generally have a miniature LCD monitor on the back to preview pictures that have been taken. LCD Screen Size is the length of that monitor measured diagonally.

Weight: Weight of the digital camera including memory card (if applicable) and batteries. SLR camera weights are body only.

Sony Cyber-shot HX5
Review: For a small, pocketable compact, the HX5 performs really well. Noise control and colour rendition are excellent and speed of the camera and the way it handles are respectable. (8 out of 10)
Sony NEX-5
Review: The 14.2-megapixel Sony NEX-5 is cut from a different cloth to most Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens (EVIL) cameras. That much is true as soon as you pull it out of the box - impressive-looking beasts such as the Nikon D3S aside, there may not be a better-looking camera available today.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5 review at Camera Labs
Review:  Sony's first pocket super-zoom hits the ground running with a feature-set which genuinely stands out from the competition. None of its rivals feature 10fps continuous shooting, 1080i video recording, or the same degree of innovation and consistent success with their automatic modes. You get...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 review at Camera Labs
Review:  The Cyber-shot DSC-H55 packs a 10x optical zoom into a very compact frame. It may not be the slimmest, or lightest travel zoom on the market, but it is beautifully designed and handles like a dream. Though it lacks many of the headline features of its more advanced, more expensive sibling, the HX5,...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W350 review at Camera Labs
Review:  The Cyber-shot DSC-W350 may be out-classed by the Canon IXUS 130 in several important respects when both models are compared side-by-side, but that doesn't diminish what it offers for the money. The W350 boasts a flexible zoom range with wider-than-average 26mm coverage, 720p HD movies, a...
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 review at Camera Labs
Review:  Despite its shortcomings the Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a capable, exciting camera and one that marks the coming of age for touch-screen compacts. While previous experiments with touch-screens have often left us wondering whether they were worth the effort, the TX7 feels like a natural and desirable...

Sony Alpha A230
Review: The Sony Alpha A230 is one of the cheapest and simplest entry-level digital SLRs on the market, only 10.2 megapixels and with a very short list of features. However it does have built-in image stabilisation and a good AF system, so is it the ideal introduction to DSLR photography?
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W310 review at Camera Labs
